Staff Software Engineer - Conversations Platform (Back-end)

Your Job

You will be a technical lead on the Conversations Platform team whose mission is to provide services that drive communications between job seekers and employers. We provide email, telephone, and other communication systems used by high-profile, high-traffic products serving billions of requests per month.

As technical lead, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of both yourself and the team. This will include:
  • Guiding the team's development work, removing blockers, and making product and technical decisions to help the team effectively meet its goals.
  • Leading designs of major software components, systems, and features that are resilient and scalable.
  • Being thoughtful and vigilant about risk and tradeoffs in the solutions we build.
  • Working closely with your own team and teams across Indeed to identify and understand opportunities to deliver on the team’s mission and then execute on those opportunities.
  • Mentoring and training other team members on design techniques and coding standards

Strong technical skills will be essential to success but we’ll also look to you to have a strong product sense, a focus on the success of our internal customers, and a desire to identify and execute on impactful work. With a potential scope that spans much of Indeed’s global product/engineering organization, you’ll have real opportunities for growth within and beyond the team.

You will have opportunities to mentor other engineers, and to receive mentorship from some of the most senior engineers at Indeed.

Who You Are

We are looking to grow the team by adding engineers with a strong product sense, a focus on customer success, and a willingness to work across teams, products, and even technical stacks to improve our platform and respond to customer needs.

You have experience or at least a strong interest in building systems that are used by more than one product or team. You understand the trade-offs and criticalities of providing services at multiple datacenters around the world. You’re happy to work anywhere in the stack and more focused on writing impactful code than on the language you’re writing it in. You have experience with deploying services to production, ensuring those services are observable, and debugging production issues when they occur. You’re motivated by opportunities to help other teams be successful.

Requirements
    • 7+ years experience in software engineering, including experience managing production systems.
    • Demonstrated success working on software engineering problems that span multiple products.
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver through other software engineers.
    • Evidence of a strong sense of ownership and product understanding.
    • Ability to be rapidly effective with Kotlin, Java, and closely related technologies; it is OK if you don’t have significant experience in these languages, but we expect you to become productive with them.

Salary Range Disclaimer

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits.

Salary Range Transparency

US Remote 138,000 - 174,000 USD per year
