Our infrastructure back-end Data Analytics team is looking for talented technical Engineering Team Lead to join the Zendesk infrastructure Data Analytics team and help us build the next generation of data foundation systems and products! The Zendesk data team is responsible for implementing a globally distributed reporting and analytics infrastructure. We provide the foundation for analytics, machine learning and we work closing with data product teams.

As a Team Lead, you will be responsible for managing a small and growing team. You are responsible for hiring future talented and diverse background data engineers, managing your team’s health, and meeting regularly 1 on 1 to mentor and coach your direct reports. You will lead and guide the team to build and design future data catalogs for data systems, identifying scaling issues early and architecting solutions around them, negotiating on product features to avoid problems, and proactively advocating and educating colleagues in good software engineering practices.

What you bring to the role:

  • 6+ years of data engineering experience with very large datasets

  • 1+ years managing and leading software engineering teams

  • Good understanding of Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark, and SQL

  • Enthusiasm for solving tough data platform problems and data-driven product

  • A background in shipping high-quality data products

  • Great communication and collaboration skills

  • A passion for sustaining a healthy and effective work environment

  • A team-first mentality

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with building data catalog and schema registry

  • Experience building Machine Learning powered products

  • Experience with Ruby, Python, Scala, or Javascript

  • Experience building data-intensive applications

  • Working at a really big (think global!) scale.

  • Commercial AWS knowledge.
