Your Role As A Junior Software Engineer

As a Junior Software Engineer on the InScribe team, you will build and enhance the user interface of the InScribe web application. You will play an active role in designing and developing APIs that front-end components leverage, and develop a solid understanding of the InScribe backend services. You’ll work remotely with our team of engineers and the product team to build and maintain customer-facing experiences and backend solutions to enable high-quality services running at scale and deliver those experiences into the hands of students and teachers. You will be constantly seeking ways to ensure we maintain a high level of quality with a reasonable pace of delivery.
Responsibilities
  • Reading and writing code, with a focus on writing maintainable code that is easy to understand
  • Collaborating with peers and product teams to define and implement new features
  • Collaboratively define, scope, prioritize, and estimate work
  • Making well-reasoned decisions that inspire and energize others
  • Driving helpful conversations around technical issues and engineering practices, suggesting improvements and ideas as you see them
  • Documenting the systems you help build
  • Building functional UI components from design mockups
  • Building scalable and highly available systems that follow operational best practices
  • Triage, reproduce and debug support requests or issues reported by other coworkers
Qualifications
There are many folks who don’t meet all the qualifications. We care more about hiring engineers that care deeply about shipping software that helps students than checking all of the qualifications off. So whether you meet all the qualifications or just a partial set, we want to hear from you.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • High degree of empathy
  • 1+ years experience with software development
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and React
  • Experience working asynchronously on a remote, distributed team (does not have to be professional experience)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Go
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Experience with OOP and API design

Estimated salary range
$65,000-$85,000
The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience for the role. The base salary is one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards and benefits include health, vision, and dental insurance, accident and life insurance, and uncapped paid-time off, to name a few.
