Job Overview:

As a candidate for our Backend Software Engineer position you need to be an experienced software engineer, who enjoys building and maintaining large-scale, production applications to support the increasing number of educators using Lexia’s products. In this role you will design and build production APIs that are performant and scalable to support our educator reporting application. This work will include collaborating closely with other engineers and stakeholders in our agile development process to provide the best overall engineering solutions to meet business requirements.

The ideal candidate will have at least a few years of backend experience and be interested in both delivering quality software and growing as an engineer.

Location:

  • We are open to this person being fully remote within the USA or being based out of our Concord, MA headquarters.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively as part of an agile team to enhance and maintain our myLexia reporting and administrative platform.

  • Design, develop and integrate RESTful APIs for our web and mobile applications

  • Demonstrate confidence in the quality of what you deliver and take pride in the same.

  • Continuously deliver features that meet acceptance criteria such as build quality, unit tests, logging, performance and security.

Job Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience designing and coding in PHP, Java, C++ or other object oriented language.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of OOO

  • Good understanding of RESTful web services and HTTP protocols

  • Experience with creating and analyzing SQL queries for relational databases

  • Experience developing for and supporting production web applications and services

  • Ability to collaborate with JavaScript developers to design and code production quality APIs

  • Knowledge of Laravel or other frameworks (Zend, Rails, Spring)

  • Experience with Git or other distributed version control systems

  • Practiced in the writing of unit tests with PHPUnit, Mockery, Codeception or other testing libraries

  • Familiar with Jira and Bamboo or CI tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field

  • Ability to travel to Concord, MA 2-3 times per year.
