Product Content Strategist, Encourage Engagement and Communications

Role Overview

We’re looking for an analytically curious storyteller with strong writing skills who is comfortable taking complex ideas and frameworks and adapting them to be simple and helpful. You’ll plan, write, and edit content by defining when and how a learner experiences content through their college and career readiness journey, including content for the educators and parents/guardians who support them. The ideal candidate is an exceptional researcher who is as comfortable playing with data as they are writing new content.

The Encourage Engagement and Communications team leads the user engagement, content, communication strategy, and experience for the student-facing Encourage mobile and web apps and educator-facing Encourage web app. Our vision is to create content for our products that can meet any learner where they are and help them get to their next step, whether that be 2- or 4-year institutions, direct to career, or other life pathways. We want to encourage and inspire lifelong learning and career success by providing access to a free technology platform that provides learners all they need to reach their goals. With the right knowledge and information, learners can find the right schools, right majors, and right careers to achieve success.

The Product Content Strategist will support this effort by creating dynamic content that speaks to each of our audiences, addresses their core values and needs, and helps them connect to their next step to achieve the life they envision. You will report to the Senior Director of Encourage Engagement and Communications and collaborate with the team to create in-app and multi-channel content focused on delivering user value, relationship nurturing, and support.

Your key responsibilities

  • Partner cross-functionally to coordinate, produce, and distribute content that builds relationships with learners and educators.
  • Envision how content can be curated in formats other than text-based articles, such as infographics or video.
  • Be able to take complex processes and postsecondary frameworks and write them into engaging and digestible content resources.
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, researchers, and product managers on content for Encourage products.
  • Assist in the development of content strategy that meets the end users’ content requirements and create content strategy deliverables across a project life cycle.
  • Conduct content audits and gap analyses.
  • Assist in management of content taxonomies, style guides, and framework.
  • Create relevant advisory content about college and career planning, including UX copy, micro copy, short-form and long-form copy.
  • Provide innovative ideas and valuable feedback to our tech and product teams on how to best connect learners to their next steps.
  • Collaborate with external parties to develop content at scale.

  • Highly detail oriented, organized, creative, and self-motivated with a sense of urgency to thrive in a fast-paced virtual environment that offers a great deal of freedom.
  • Resilient and resourceful with a reputation for quickly solving problems. Strong project management skills and ability to execute and deliver high quality and on-time content.
  • Experience writing for higher ed and understanding of the college search process a plus. Experience with curriculum development, LMS, and/or developing engaging quiz content a plus
  • Experience writing in AP style a plus.

Roll progression and impact

  • Within 1 month, you will have a strong understanding of the existing content and have contributed to writing and editing engaging copy for our student and educator facing products. You will learn our business, culture, and get to know the amazing people you will work with at Encoura.
  • Within 3 months, you should have a strong sense of voice for Encoura’s Encourage products and feel confident in the needs of all audiences (students, parents/guardians, educators, school districts, lifelong learners, career-track). You will bring fresh content ideas to our products that resonate with our audiences.
  • Within 6 months, you will feel confident in your role. You will have contributed to the strategy and success of the content strategy journey and we will work with you to identify any special projects or interest areas where you may branch out. Take the lead of all new initiatives that you have identified to reach and engage students and families.
  • Within 12 months, you will have contributed meaningfully to a product that is changing lives and meeting learners where they are and helping them get to their next step in life. You’ll have a deep understanding of our business and ways that you can impact positive change. You will implement internal and external process improvements based on your experiences.
