Ability to identify alternative design strategies, assess design viability and rapidly transform business requirements into a user interface design. The Human Factors Engineer will work closely with and interact with the Pension subject matter experts and developers during the design and implementation phases. The POI program will implement VBA pension rules and processes to produce definitive outcomes for each pension claim evaluated. This candidate will be supporting the user interface design and development of our customer-facing applications to allow veteran service representatives (VSRs) to review pension claims for completeness and accuracy, and for rating veteran service representatives (RVSRs) to apply ratings to pension claims. In addition, the candidate will provide walk-throughs of the design to large group of VBA stakeholders including the Office of Field Operations (OFO). In this capacity, you will help discover critical elements for pension automation and communicate them effectively to a wide audience and incorporate their feedback. Your contributions and communications skills will be vital to providing a positive, high quality user experience to our nation’s Veterans.

This candidate will support the preparation of a Pension Automation Roadmap within the first 45 days of task order award, support a team of skilled technical and functional resources, define program risks and mitigation, establish both communications and change management plans. This position will be remote with limited support required in GDIT facilities and/or a government site.

Job Duties:

GDIT is seeking a detail oriented, intelligent, and motivated Human Factors Engineer with strong human centered design (HCD) skills that is interested in becoming a core team member of the POI team. You will serve as a coordinator for aggregating pension functional requirements and processing flows to support multiple team interactions to achieve the desired pension optimization business outcomes through interactive layouts. The primary responsibility will be to integrate the needs of the projects as well as the needs of several different VBA stakeholders to meet the milestone objectives for pension automation. The ideal candidate will have strong multiplexing skills and the ability to communicate effectively to a broad audience of stakeholders.


  • Assist with development of rich functional prototypes using white board brainstorming, low and high-fidelity mockups and interaction requirements focused on HCD
  • Support design to reduce the potential for human error, increase system availability, lower lifecycle costs, and enhance overall system performance
  • Work with development teams to implement interactive design
  • Demonstrate those designs via webinars, live audiences, and one-on-one with the pension stakeholder community
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of all UIs developed
  • Assist in formulating recommendations to improve and support business activities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and development to define and implement innovative solutions for pension claims processing
  • Participates in technical reviews and inspections to verify 'intent of change' is carried through phases of project, i.e., agile development process
  • Support GDIT’s managed service delivery of pension to meet the objectives in processing efficiency
  • Assist with the management of requirements and collaboration sessions that define the 45-day Road Map and beyond

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, design, or related field and 5+ years related experience
  • 5+ years business process / related analysis experience
  • 3+ of human center design focused on UI experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software development life-cycle methodologies
  • Strong proficiency with design tools and productivity tools
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting, and US Citizenship or Green card holder

Desired Qualifications:

  • Professional Agile certification.
  • Previous Department of Veterans Affairs experience or Federal Contracting experience
  • Active VA access including assigned CAG and PIV

The likely salary range for this position is $88,000 - $132,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
