We are a closely held software development agency and we are looking for a driven User Interface Designer. Are you current in your web design skills and user experience principles? Familiar in the use of design systems/languages? If so and you’re looking for a no-politics zone to do your best work, then Mercury is the place for you!

The Work

The UI Designer will be engaged in the user interface and design aspects of a range of software development projects including:

  • Plan: Help product managers plan product features and establish use patterns
  • Prototype: Create wireframes and mockups to define user experiences and interactions
  • Design: Create beautiful interface designs for web and mobile applications
  • Build: Work with Scrum teams to develop rich HTML and CSS front ends
  • Optimize: Hone overall software interfaces, layouts and user experiences/outcomes

Skills & Requirements

The position requires strong knowledge of user experience principles, interface design and creative design applied to software construction. A fact- and research-based approach to design is as key a skill as aesthetic/artistic talents.

A keen ability to seek out the challenges in an application and generate ideas to help product managers and engineers arrive at an interface solution for the Job to Be Done is vital. Common tools range from mocking/prototyping tools like Adobe XD and Figma to high-fidelity creative tools like Photoshop and Illustrator.

The ideal candidate has experience leveraging product definition, analytical skill and intuition to craft designs.

Bonus Skills

Since you’ll be spending most of your time designing things that get deployed to the web, comfort translating those designs to HTML, CSS, WordPress and related ecosystem tooling will be a distinct advantage. The ability to create an impeccable UX-centric creative design and translate it into highly-performant web pages on phones, tablets and desktops may just elevate you to unicorn status!
