What you are going to work on:

The Ecosystem Services group is responsible for democratizing core organizational and educational data. We are creating the architecture and platform for orchestrating how data flows, and securing / exposing low-latency APIs that allow our product teams to move fast. The scope within Ecosystem Services is divided into 3 groups and this position is the Engineering Leader, Director-level, for the Speedy Setup team.

The main objective of Speedy Setup is to expedite the time it takes for new Schools and Districts to have access to the suite of products they have purchased. As our product portfolio grows, we must improve our setup process and tooling to make adding products and customers quick and easy. As an Engineering Leader, you will partner with product and guide engineers in reducing the complexity around rostering, provisioning, and licensing of our products to both new and existing customers.

In this role, you also will:

  • Collaborate with other leaders to ensure cross-organizational alignment and maximize adoption of Speedy Setup products

  • Guide a team of engineers to choose the right technology. At Ecosystems, we are relying on a modern tech stack and our current projects use a mix of Golang, Python and Typescript on the backend side. Our frontend technology is Javascript-based with Vue and ReactJS.

  • Thoughtfully bring new technologies, architectural patterns and engineering practices that help us deliver quality products on-time

  • Be the technical thought partner of our Product Leads, collaborating on discovery and roadmap planning for concurrent tracks of work

  • Own the technical roadmap and be accountable for the team’s commitments

  • Mentor, grow and hire a team of engineers across all levels, geographically distributed

  • Influence the organizational design of Ecosystem Services to maximize our impact

  • Guide the team in the design, implementation, maintenance and operation of secure, scalable and reliable microservices that support products available to 40% of students in the US

  • Bring your ideas and experience to help us continue to evolve our engineering organization and practices

  • Advocate for code development and delivery improvements to ensure well-tested code is shipped early+often and is actively monitored once in the wild


For this role, you must have:

  • 5+ years of experience managing teams of up to 10 engineers working on concurrent tracks of work

  • Experience navigating complex organizational systems and creating plans to iteratively sunset them

  • Experience working closely with product leads to understand product vision and help translate it into a technical roadmap and execution plan

  • A passion for helping learning and growing yourself and well as your teammates

  • Empathy and emotional intelligence to create a safe environment where everyone can thrive

  • Ability to coach engineers in both technical and non-technical skills

  • Experience working with agile methodologies such as XP and Scrum

  • Experience leveraging agile engineering practices such as test-driven development, pair programming, continuous integration/delivery

  • Deep empathy for your colleagues and customers

Bonus Points:

  • Understanding of how data is used in preK-12 education

  • Experience with AWS services and architectures

  • Experience building delightful frontend web experiences
