Overview:
The Senior Front-End Web Developer at Velir is a member of a cross-functional web development team responsible for building enterprise level web applications using client-side technologies to create rich, dynamic, and visually appealing experiences. This senior developer is a skilled communicator who excels at collaborating with team members and conveying technical concepts to other developers, managers, and clients. This senior developer has excellent technical skills utilizing the latest concepts in client-side practices including responsive techniques, tools such as CSS preprocessors and task runners, and client side frameworks including React. This senior developer also has design sensibilities that translate to their work.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to understand requirements, communicate designs, and implement specifications
  • Maintain a high awareness of industry trends and technologies with regards to front-end web development
  • Build content and data driven enterprise level web applications, implementing dynamic user interfaces emphasizing responsive web design and accessibility
  • Integrate with third-party systems and providers by consuming web services and collaborating with back-end developers to design APIs and service interfaces
  • Write clean, well-organized, accessible code, following industry standard coding practices (WCAG, SASS, SMACCS, BEM)
  • Create documentation around processes including front-end workflow and service architecture
  • Work in both Agile and Waterfall project methodologies, meeting delivery milestones and quality expectations
  • Apply quality measures around performance, security, and scalability
  • Communicate complex technical solutions to client as needed
  • Mentor and coach junior developers through code reviews and ongoing support
  • Identify risks early and mitigate or escalate them as appropriate
  • Assist the business development and client services team with technical assessments and estimates
Skills & Qualifications:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Deep knowledge in HTML5 and CSS3
  • Experience in JavaScript including frameworks such as React
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility requirements and remediation techniques
  • Able to communicate technical concepts effectively — both orally and in written documentation — to members of cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders
  • Ability to identify roadblocks, raise risks, and suggest resolutions
  • Ability to create or extend digital designs
  • Ability to maintain and foster a high level of communication and collaboration, aptitude for compromise and building consensus, and enthusiasm for introducing new concepts and processes
  • Ability to adhere to project budgets and estimates
  • Ability to learn and become highly proficient in new technologies; technologies used at Velir include: JavaScript (ES6), React (using Hooks), Storybook, D3, SCSS, HTML, Gulp, npm, Git
  • Familiarity with any of the following is not required, but highly desirable: data visualization, Next.js, Contentful, Gatsby, web animation, web performance, SXA, Sitecore, AEM, Abstract

Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 6+ years of developing dynamic web applications
  • Demonstrated experience building responsive web designs
  • Demonstrated experience working on collaborative teams in a dynamic environment
  • Experience consulting for clients and stakeholders
  • Experience guiding and mentoring other developers

  • Frequent sitting at a desk performing work on a computer
