At Squanch Games, we make stuff that people love; Games that we want to play ourselves. We make experiences that we would like to be totally immersed in and enjoy for hours at a time, as well as shorter, crazier experiences that would be great to play with a group of friends, or possibly with your grandmother who only comes over because she is afraid you'll starve to death if left to your own devices.

If you share these values, come join us!

As a level designer at Squanch Games you’ll be part of developing novel and highly imaginative worlds. You’ll work on levels at all points of their creation: paper maps, white box layouts, gameplay spaces, playtesting and iteration, and final polish. You’ll work closely with the team to ensure that both design and artistic visions are met. This includes taking your level designs through pitch, concept, implementation, bug fixing, balance, and polish phases.

  • Create clear, concise, and visually-oriented design materials that explain your levels pacing and flow.
  • Use UE4 to build out well designed and functional white box layouts that also have great compositions and strong aesthetics.
  • Create immersive gameplay scenarios that support and enhance the core mechanics of the game.
  • Work closely with both the art and narrative teams to deliver content that meets each disciplines goals and creates a memorable experience
  • Be prepared to provide a concise and complete presentation on the core vision of your level to any audience.
  • Pitch and present designs to the team and department heads.
  • Use UE4 Blueprints to script basic level functionality
  • Address bugs and gameplay issues to assure a stable and polished product
  • Help assess the progress, quality and user friendliness of the project via methods such as usability testing, focus tests and in-house play tests
  • Provide constructive feedback on all aspects of the product; find opportunities to increase the quality of the product and advise on how that information may be implemented, or held for future products
  • Be curious and passionate: You read and/or play games most days. You know what’s going on in the gaming world and can’t wait to talk about it with others.
  • Be collaborative and humble: You know that the best work comes from a team who trust and respect each other. You strive to collaborate with others and don’t care whose ideas win. Best ideas win.
. Requirements:
  • 2 years of games experience
  • Credit on one or more published titles
  • Knowledge and experience with level editing tools and scripting (Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar editors).
  • Good sense of aesthetics, design, colors and an eye for composition
  • Intermediate knowledge of Maya or other major 3D modeling program
  • Very good interpersonal skills including strong communication skills; both verbal and written skills are required.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in the arts is a plus

  • Health, dental & vision insurance
  • Short term & long term disability insurance coverage
  • Paid parental leave
  • 401k and FSA
  • Flexible PTO and work from home policies
