Software Engineer

The Software Engineer will participate in all phases of the SDLC, working on small teams and individual projects. This position reports to a Technical Team Lead with oversight from the Director of Software Engineering

Essential Functions

  • Designs/codes enterprise-level solutions and applications following specifications using the appropriate tools
  • Design, develop, and unit test enhancements to the existing content management portal and Clarity platform
  • Produce effective technical documentation
  • Enhance and maintain existing applications on their own and with guidance and collaboration with architects and other engineering team members
  • Performs maintenance programming for existing version
  • Performs custom programming at customer request
  • Share technical knowledge through documentation and presentations.
  • Research design options and create prototypes, conduct solution evaluations, reviews finding with peers
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Education Required

  • BA/BS degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge & Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in software development, including 3+ years of working with java/j2ee
  • Familiarity with distributed enterprise applications (systems that span several physical machines)
  • Experience with Event-Driven architectures
  • Experience developing/supporting/maintaining applications on a Linux/UNIX platform
  • Experience with Object-Oriented Analysis and Design
  • Experience with web application technologies and frameworks (i.e. JSP, AJAX, AngularJS)
  • Experience with secure software designs
  • Experience working on small and fast paced software teams
  • Proficiency in MySQL/Apache/Tomcat
  • Experience with SOA and Web Service architectures including protocols such as SOAP or REST preferred
  • Experience delivering products in an Agile environment preferred
  • Knowledge of a large scale printing technologies (PDF, PPML) preferred

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit at a desk 80 percent of the time
  • Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office products (i.e. a computer printer)
  • Must be able to frequently communicate via telephone
