Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a talented, motivated and experienced software engineer to join our team as we build the next wave of services to support our growing products, Core5, PowerUp, and Lexia English.
We are looking for someone who loves to figure out how the pieces fit together at a high-level, as well as roll up their sleeves and develop the solution. You are not afraid to dig into the unknown and learn. You will be a critical member of our student services team, using technologies like Node.js, noSQL databases and AWS to build new APIs and services needed by our student apps. Key initiatives for the team include building a new modern backend platform to support tracking millions of students' daily progress, creation of an internal SDK to enable faster and more consistent front-end app development, and evolving services to support product specific features.
Developing in a SAFe (Agile) environment you will define, scope, and plan your work, working closely with a small team of backend engineers, while also collaborating with developers and stakeholders across our product engineering group to deliver on the vision for a shared, unified platform.

This position can be fully remote within the USA (CST/EST schedule preferred) or based out of our Concord, MA headquarters.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop new services and features while maintaining and enhancing existing systems
  • Write clean, efficient, maintainable, well-tested code that follows best practices (e.g., SOLID)
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards and best practices are followed
  • Gather requirements and document technical approaches (solution summaries, recommendations, flow charts, system diagrams)
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across systems (client apps, APIs, dbs, integrations)
  • Work within a SAFe (Agile) environment to plan and manage tasks
  • Support team members with guidance, problem-solving ideas, and technical presentations
  • Keep up to date on existing and emerging technologies, advocating for new practices to adopt
Skills Requirements:
  • 8+ years of software design and development experience, building mission-critical, secure, high-volume distributed systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Typescript and Node.js, preferably building web APIs; experience with Nest.js a huge plus
  • Experience data modelling and developing with both noSQL and relation databases, preferably AWS DocumentDB or MongoDB and mySQL
  • Experience leveraging AWS services like EC2, S3, SNS, SQS, Lambda, containers
  • Experience developing with object-oriented solutions using languages lie PHP, C#, or Java
  • Capable of diving in to unknown code to reverse engineer for requirements analysis or support
  • Familiarity with high-level architectural patterns like CQRS and Event sourcing
  • Experience with development tools like VS Code, NPM, Jest, PHPStorm
  • Comfortable with client-side development in React.js and Redux
  • Success working in an Agile or SAFe development environment with remote team members
  • Familiarity with git-based source control system, such as Bitbucket
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills
  • Endless curiosity and a sense of humor
  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
