JOB TITLE: Software Developer
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Technology
JOB LOCATION: Houston or Remote
TRAVEL: Less than 10%
AVR Inc is looking for a Software Developer to play a critical role in helping our development team shape the Company’s applications. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, modifying, and implementing new or existing software products. Your duties will include liaising with the development managers, writing clean, scalable code, creating testing protocols, fixing bugs, and deploying programs.
  • Collaborate with development teams and product managers to determine best practices and requirements for software.
  • Write clean, scalable code using various programming languages.
  • Troubleshoot coding problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Test, maintain and recommend software improvements to ensure strong functionality and optimization.
  • Follow best practices (test-driven development, continuous integration, SCRUM, refactoring, and code standards).
  • Drive continuous adoption and integration of relevant new technologies into design.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Solid technical background, with understanding or hands-on experience in software development and web technologies.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, system design and algorithms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Having a strong attention to detail and a head for problem solving.
  • Skilled at working in tandem with a team, or unsupervised as required.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • One to two years of experience with object-oriented languages (e.g. .Net, Java, Python).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or work equivalent.
  • Desire to address complex challenges with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to learn quickly and consume information (written and verbal).
  • Proficient with JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Vue).
  • Strong Familiarity with databases and other NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Other experience in working with .Net, and Node.js.
  • Working with OpenEdge ABL and 4GL is a plus.
  • Well-versed in Object Oriented Programming, Microservice Based Architecture, and Design Pattern.
  • At least one or two years of experience with Docker, Kubernetes and/or cloud deployment technologies.
  • Experience with application deployment by using CI/CD.
  • Experience with alerting tools like OpsGenie, PagerDuty or AWS Cloudwatch.
  • Strong knowledge of data structures, system design and algorithms.
  • Substantial understanding of technology, including technical details as necessary.
  • High degree of organization and self-direction.
