Statusphere is a woman-led product recommendation network that helps people discover products they love from people they trust. We're focused on scaling word of mouth marketing and pioneering innovations in social shopping online. We are in search of a Principal Backend Engineer that can help us scale our platform and develop new product offerings.

Overview

As a Principal Backend Engineer at Statusphere, you will use your mastery of JavaScript, Node.js, and Postgres to deliver web services that contribute to Statusphere's key product and business outcomes. You are a thoughtful engineer who wants to work on a small, product-focused team. You will follow established coding guidelines, contribute to process improvements, write and maintain clean application code, and avoid investing copious amounts of time optimizing things that don't matter. You will be a productive team member both independently and in collaborative and supporting capacities.

What you will do

  • Spend most of your time doing heads-down coding
  • Use continuous delivery to ship incremental improvements at least once per week
  • Participate in code reviews to spot issues around architecture, performance, security, and consistent coding patterns
  • Follow and improve upon Statusphere's engineering guidelines, code style, and continuous delivery process
  • Communicate plans, progress, blockers in team review meetings
  • Frequently ask clarifying questions about the intended impact of the work, weighing options, and devising creative solutions to complex problems
  • Assist with training and onboarding of team members as needed

Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing and building RESTful APIs
  • Expertise in Postgres and relational database architecture/schema design
  • Mastery of JavaScript, Node.js, and Express.js
  • Strong understanding of modern-day web application architecture
  • Ability to investigate incidents, and differentiate memory, I/O, and CPU bottlenecks

Nice to haves

  • Experience designing, maintaining, and deploying large and growing distributed systems
  • Experience with highly available, high throughput REST APIs
  • Experience with AWS (RDS, S3, Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda)
  • Experience managing CI and CD configurations
  • Experience with RPC and Graph API design
  • Proficiency with React and ability to support front-end as needed

Compensation & Benefits

  • $100,000 - $160,000 (negotiable) plus bonuses
