Job Description

Henry Schein One is looking for a world-class Software Development Manager to join our rocket ship in the Dentistry SaaS space. With over 30 years providing Dentistry Software, Henry Schein One is the industry leader, but we know we can do even better. Your role is to manage the creation and maintenance of Henry Schein One’s software solutions. You will work closely with your team, software engineers, user experience designers, architects, and other Software Development Managers, in addition to collaborating with offshore development teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team (may have up to 20 indirect reports) that uses agile process that consistently delivers quality features and product to Henry Schein One’s customers by relentlessly focusing on customer problems.
  • Rally your team to make and keep commitments to customers, the business, and themselves.
  • Lead discussions with your team about what emerging tools, technologies and processes are coming that may impact how our organization grows and evolves. Create proposals for the creation and modification of our processes and technology roadmaps in your designated area.
  • Team up with your Product Owners and UX Designers and Engineering Leads in planning and preparing team’s backlog.
  • Mentor, coach, and assist team members to be productive and efficient contributors to Henry Schein One’s Dental Cloud Platform.
  • Meet with your team to ensure their path for success is clear and we’re instilling and exhibiting the right behaviors to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery.
  • Ensure the quality craftsmanship of your team’s software engineers is an ingrained behavior and that we’re always ensuring our code not only works as advertised, but it will continue to work when thousands upon thousands of people are utilizing it at the same time.
  • Participate in interviews to find the next great engineer or leader at Henry Schein One, convincing them that Henry Schein One has the best software jobs on the planet.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in software engineering with 2+ years of recent experience leading software engineering teams in an Agile, Sprint based, SCRUM based environment.
  • Knowledge of multiple technologies, languages, and/or architectures in the Henry Schein One environment (Microservices, event-driven architecture, Node.js, Vue.js, AWS, Docker, SQL, NoSQL, data pipelines, etc.). May consider C#, Java experience as well as the aforementioned.
  • Have unique experience in microservice architectures, real-time and distributed systems, big data, analytics or AI, and public cloud/PaaS systems like AWS.
  • Product based full life cycle software development experience required.
  • Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of software engineering practices, craftsmanship, metrics, quality and testing procedures, process creation and enablement.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to changing situations in stride communicating effectively to achieve buy-in and minimizing downstream effect on performance and morale.
  • Established track record of being the go-to person for your teams, spearheading or injecting yourself in necessary discussions to ensure you’re always in the loop and your teams always have what they need to be successful.
  • Experience optimizing software processes to ensure your team is always running efficiently and constantly striving to improve.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate details about the technical practices in software engineering in a way that makes sense and resonates with our customers and other departments in the business.
  • Show that you have the ability and desire to mentor others to improve their capabilities in all areas above.
  • Demonstrate extraordinary communication skills in talking to engineers, the CEO, our customers and everyone in between.
  • Convince us that you have successfully led measurable and, preferably, dramatic improvements in the engineering practices and execution of software teams and that you have the passion and drive to do it again.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.

COMPENSATION:
The posted range for this position is $102,672- $154,008 which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc.
This position is eligible for a 12.5% bonus/incentive not reflected in the posted range.
