We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Web Developer to join our team. Our Technology Solutions team at AIR incorporates a user-first philosophy with cutting-edge web and mobile technologies to design and develop elegant products. You will get to work with a collaborative team on projects that drive our mission in the education, health, workforce, and international sectors. This position can be located out of any of the following AIR locations once offices are reopened: Crystal City, VA; Rockville, MD; Austin, TX; Chicago, IL; or it can be remote.
Responsibilities:
You will be supporting multiple teams of researchers to develop web portals and data visualizations based on research being conducted. The work includes developing websites to showcase data stories and data visualizations to make the research come to life. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Developing web portals and data visualizations using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript
  • Theming and implementing highly-visible, user-facing features with data visualization components
  • Maintaining (security patches, upgrades), troubleshooting, testing, and deploying websites
Qualifications:
Fundamentals
  • Strong HTML & CSS skills, with bonus points for experience with animation, knowledge of approaches to scalable/modular CSS
  • Functional knowledge & interest in developing genuinely accessible interfaces
  • Experience with geospatial visualization tool such as Mapbox, Leaflet, or other GIS systems
  • A desire to collaborate closely with designers, web developers, clients, & QA testers to deliver quality software that solves problems
  • Desire and ability to pick up domain knowledge quickly
  • Continually learn about the ever-evolving space of front-end development and data visualization
  • Have fun solving hard problems

Strong programing skills in the following
  • TypeScript / JavaScript
  • React and D3
  • The ability to write reusable React components in an environment such as Storybook
  • The ability to use D3 and React together, making good use of each one’s respective advantage
  • Git or other version control system

Nice to Have
  • js / WebGL knowledge
  • Full stack experience, or knowledge of a full stack framework such as ASP.NET or Django
  • Ability to clean up data using JavaScript, Python, or R (or other tools based on the scenario)
  • Experience with other UI frameworks such as Vue or Svelte
  • Familiarity with client-side build process & bundling tools – especially Webpack and Vite
  • Familiarity with R data visualization and RShiny

AIR requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a legally required exemption from AIR, as a condition of employment.
