EXPLO Pre-College and Career is hiring short-term Virtual Curriculum Developers for our pre-college academic summer enrichment programs to be held in Summer 2021 on the campus of Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. We are seeking candidates who have significant professional or academic experience in the area of Engineering.

This is an excellent opportunity for people who are accomplished in their fields to develop engaging curriculum through working with an organization, in EXPLO, who is renowned for our innovative teaching methods and 40+ year history of developing hands-on curriculum and designing immersive learning experiences for students.


Virtual Curriculum Developers are clear and concise writers who are able to generate learning experiences that students will enjoy. You’ll create step by step lesson plans that our summer instructors will be able to understand and carry out. You can describe big ideas and concepts from your field with clarity such that others can comprehend, follow, and teach them to pre-college students. You’re collaborative and excited about using your knowledge to design and refine lasting learning experiences for students in grades 10-12.

You’ll work on a short-term basis from your own home, and consult regularly by phone, email, or video conference with our full time Director of Teaching + Learning.

Curriculum development work may include:

  • Writing up to 10 days of lesson plans (80 hours of instructional time)
  • Developing a culminating project
  • Updating and revising curriculum in response to feedback
  • Participating in virtual training sessions
  • Checking in with full-time curriculum develop team, as needed


Successful candidates will have:

  • Significant content knowledge in the field of Engineering
  • Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Relevant work/intern/apprenticeship experience within the field
  • Project-based teaching and curriculum development experience is preferred

Developer must be able to develop pre-college curriculum in the following topic areas:

  • Solar and renewable energy
  • Robotics
  • Autonomous vehicle design
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Python coding

Priority will be given to candidates who are also interested in and available to teach the programs in the summer of 2021. Information on the Lead Instructor position can be found here.


Compensation is competitive and based on relevant experience and the amount of curriculum development needed for the program. This position is remote with a flexible schedule and opportunity for summer seasonal employment.
