Job Description


Your Career

We're looking for a Principal level Software Engineer to make a significant contribution in our Unit 42 Engineering organization. The Principal Software Engineer will serve to empower the entire security research team by designing and building internal tooling to assist analysts in identifying security threats that have been observed in PANW products.

Additionally, this candidate will drive development of application workflows, process automation, and building intelligent data architecture for threat intelligence and telemetry collection at scale. This position requires a hands-on full stack development mindset, the ability to fail fast and learn faster, and a drive to execute by building ever better solutions. A strong focus on building web-UI workflows is ideal (React), and the capability to also develop backend APIs, automation, queuing systems and integrations is preferred.

Your Impact

  • Design and build new web-based workflows for threat intelligence utilizing technologies such as React and WebSockets
  • Prototype new user interfaces with internal researchers and integrate feedback into web based workflows

  • Design and build new web-based workflows using React and REST APIs (Python)

  • Develop modular frontend components to be reused by larger engineering team

  • Create standards, guidance and best practices for React development

  • Serve as the security research team's software engineering subject matter expert

  • Partner with other development and business teams to manage dependencies and communicate technical specifications.

  • Translate analyst and researcher requirements and/or PoC scripts and tools into production grade services, driving process automation

  • Support new and existing security research lab systems and custom applications.

  • Manage the planning, builds, and deployment of code to different environments using modern tools such as git and CI/CD (Gitlab CI, Spinnaker, Kubernetes)


Qualifications


Your Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience working on remote teams
  • Intimately familiar with web frameworks such as React

  • Creation of and integration with REST APIs.

  • Demonstrated full stack programming capability and desire to mature an idea from pseudo-code to MVP.

  • Strong understanding and usage of Python, JS, SQL, NoSQL, ElasticSearch, and cloud technologies used for data manipulation at scale.

  • Experience developing container based applications using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and/or Helm

  • Background or interest in threat intelligence and applied security

  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, specifically networking, databases and tool development.
