Framebridge - Staff Software Engineer
DC / NYC / Remote
Framebridge is a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the $4 billion custom framing industry. Existing custom framing options are time-consuming, complex, and expensive; many people never get around to custom framing their favorite art or photos at all. We have changed all that with a curated and streamlined process along with modernized tech and manufacturing.
We make it simple and affordable to custom frame the things you love.
The problems we solve on the engineering team span eCommerce, manufacturing, logistics, and data analysis. We strive to create unique and intuitive experiences that allow customers to frame their art using powerful and easy-to-use products. We also create the tools, systems, and processes to empower our own employees in constructing great frames and an experience that customers love.
We work on continuously delivering products and iterative improvements. Along the way we keep learning and growing as a team and individuals, prototyping and experimenting to expand our capabilities. As part of a small company, each member of our team has opportunities for leadership and guiding the evolution of products we create.
Technology is key to improving custom framing.
Our current core technologies include Spree Commerce, Ruby/Rails, VueJS, PostgreSQL, AWS infrastructure, and Kubernetes. We are always on the lookout for the best ways to better empower our employees and customers while sustainably maintaining our codebase and team.
Staff Software Engineer
We are looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer to lead architectural design across critical projects and teams. This Individual Contributor role will report directly to the VP of Engineering but will typically be working as part of a product team on our most important tasks. This candidate can be based out of either our DC office or remote, with preference for candidates in the DC or NY area. Occasional travel is required for manufacturing site-visits and annual company conferences.
Example projects include designing new 3rd party API integrations, modeling interactions with Netsuite, modeling and implementing accurate delivery estimates for customers (when will I get my frame?), implementing and updating infrastructure tooling to improve developer experience, and updating our core models for capturing frame design constraints. This role will provide expert knowledge in software engineering industry best practices such as microservice architecture, continuous integration, 3rd party integration partner evaluation, and building out realistic roadmaps toward design adoption.
We are looking for someone with these traits:
- 10+ years overall professional experience in a collaborative team setting
- Engineering leadership implementing and maintaining customer facing brand-oriented eCommerce technology
- Experience participating in an agile team, guiding developers and helping them grow through mentorship
- Experience architecting Ruby/Rails projects and other server-side API-centric frameworks
- Ability to architect and develop software that is well tested, maintainable, clean, and secure
- Understanding of operating production infrastructure following DevOps principles
- Ability to work alongside Product Managers with stakeholders to solve their problems, representing the team as part of larger business strategic planning
- Experience working alongside Product Managers to develop project roadmaps, breaking problems down into deliverable milestones
- Bravery and grit! We have a lot of work to do, both forward-looking and unraveling past assumptions, and require bold leadership to get things done
