Navient’s Product Owner-Consumer Lending is a non-supervisory position responsible to guide the development of our Consumer Lending product suite. In Agile Scrum software development, the Product Owner is the project’s key executor. The PO works with architects and development teams to ensure that business, quality, and functional goals are met with each product release. The PO is responsible for translating the product vision into actionable tasks and is responsible for the usability, quality, and delivery of these products and features. The PO is able to effectively coordinate with both engineering and business team stakeholders, and is ultimately responsible for representing the needs of the end user.

Responsibilities include:

Product Owner

  • Collaborate with product architect, business stakeholders, and client stakeholders to translate business requirements into user stories for the development teams to implement
  • Develop and maintain an appropriately prioritized backlog of user stories for implementation
  • Work with project managers and technical leads to determine scope and priorities for product development cycles
  • Work with development teams to ensure that they understand the vision for the product and are designing great features for our partners
  • Develop appropriately detailed specifications for product features so they are clearly understood by the development teams
  • Inspire and motivate the development teams to deliver innovative and exciting solutions with an appropriate sense of urgency
  • Act as an ambassador for the product internally and externally, and as the primary technical contact for queries related to the product
  • Work with key stakeholders across the company to ensure successful product releases
  • Oversee delivery of SCRUM meetings with the development team
  • Oversee development sprint planning cycles
  • Groom product backlog
  • Project scheduling and project management where applicable
  • Write and/or confirm veracity of acceptance tests
  • Obtain buy-in from stakeholders in a matrixed organization

Consumer Lending Support

  • Support consumer lending management with competitive analysis
  • Support consumer lending management with adhoc research and requests to support the business
  • Research and support vendor products that are used or may be used to support the consumer lending products


  • Bachelor’s (Additional experience may substitute)
  • 3+ years of experienced as a Project Manager or Business/Data Analyst in a high-volume business environment
  • 2 + years agile business process and workflow experience
  • Experience in a client-facing role, demonstrating leadership skills required
  • Experience working in a professional office environment; working with all levels of management required
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as established by client and senior management, and manage and prioritize tasks for others and self
  • Expertise in all Microsoft Office Suite products


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Visio, SQL a plus
  • Experience with government account management is a strong plus
  • Scrum Master certification a plus (PSM)
  • Strong, effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly with visitors, management, clients, potential clients
  • Good computer skills, including strong skills in Excel, moderate skills in MS Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to navigate easily between internet, intranet, and several proprietary systems in gathering and relaying information
  • Ability to manage time, develop and set company accomplished goals
  • Must be comfortable in the presence of senior management and executives
  • Must be comfortable in the presence of clients
  • Must be a fast learner and technically inclined
  • Regular attendance during regularly scheduled business hours
  • Subject to in-person supervision during working hours
