The Luminos Fund, an international nonprofit bringing education opportunities to the world's most vulnerable children, seeks a Data Analyst to contribute to its rapid growth and expansion. The Data Analyst will possess extensive analytical skills and be fueled by a passionate belief that success lies in the details. This hands-on role will clean and analyze program data, build tools to automate data processing and ensure data integrity, and oversee key data management processes across the organization. This full-time position can be based anywhere in the GMT -5 to +6 time zones (e.g., Boston, London, Addis Ababa, Bangalore, etc.). It will involve a certain amount of international travel to challenging contexts in the developing world.

Launched in 2016, Luminos is scaling up Second Chance: an accelerated learning program that enables children who have been kept out of school by crisis or poverty to catch up to grade level and return to learning – all in 10 months. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute data cleaning and processing using a variety of approaches, from reviewing data manually to building tools for automated data quality assurance.
  • Maintain country data dashboards to support efficient program management.
  • Analyze program-related data to drive results and support effective and transparent governance of the organization. Benchmark Luminos program data against other international standards to identify areas of improvement and refinement.
  • In coordination with the Communications Team, extract impact narratives from the data which are of interest to governments and funding partners.
  • Collaborate with Luminos country teams and partners to drive smooth data collection and review processes.
  • Provide capacity building and technical support to Luminos country teams and partners to ensure data integrity.
  • Refine existing data management practices and institute new processes to support the collection of relevant, timely, and accurate program data.
  • Build in-house tools and evaluate and implement external services for data collection, cleaning, processing, and analysis to ensure organization-wide program data integrity.
  • Track data management milestones, identify priorities, and create and execute implementation plans to deliver against annual program and organization-wide goals.
  • Distill program insights in blogs, articles, and other communications developed in coordination with the Luminos Communications Team.


Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. At least one degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience with increasing levels of responsibility in cross-cultural contexts.
  • Proficient in data collection, cleaning, and analysis with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other data management tools (e.g., SQL, R, ODK).
  • Thorough understanding of basic statistical methods (e.g., hypothesis testing, linear regression, logistic regression).
  • Data visualization skills and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI) preferred.
  • Experience in a startup environment, and building something from nothing, is strongly desired.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
