POSITION: Technical Product Manager

REPORTS TO: Clinical Data Manager

DEPARTMENT: Data Sciences

STATUS: Exempt

TwinStrand Biosciences is a Seattle-based genomics company focused on developing cutting-edge approaches for early detection of cancer, treatment optimization, and risk prediction using our ultra-accurate TwinStrand Duplex Sequencing™ technology. Our technology enables researchers and clinicians to detect genetic “needles in a haystack.” By identifying ultra-low frequency DNA mutations with a resolution 10,000-fold greater than conventional tools on the market, TwinStrand enables detection, quantification, and characterization of variants that were previously undetectable.

As a life sciences company committed to protecting the health and safety of our employees, contractors, customers, and communities, all employees of TwinStrand Biosciences are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless an accommodation has been granted for a medical reason or sincerely held religious belief or as otherwise required by applicable law.

We are seeking a highly motivated contributor to join our team as a Technical Product Manager. You will be responsible for owning and documenting user, functional, design, and plugin configuration requirements specifications for the Lab Information Management System (LIMS) being implemented at TwinStrand. This role supports the Clinical Data Management team by gathering the requirements, performing functional risk assessment activities, writing documentation, planning future features, and ownership of the change controls to document future releases. It offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with engineers, scientists, clinicians, and the leadership team to develop business targets and resource requirements.

At TwinStrand, you will become an expert in many skills beyond those that are absolutely required for the core role of Technical Product Manager because we encourage translational skill-building, diverse teams, and intense scientific collaboration.

  • Collaborate with the CLIA lab, Engineering, Custom, QC/QA, and Manufacturing functional groups to identify, write, and manage user, functional, and custom plugin requirement specifications for LIMS
  • Identify key stakeholders to gather feedback on potential or implemented features to refine and improve functional and plugin requirements
  • Evaluate new feature releases from the Vendor in lower instances (DEV and UAT) to identify applicability to current processes for continuous improvement
  • Assist the development team in translating business and internal stakeholder needs to clear technical product requirements and specifications
  • Help triage issues as they arise and manage the LIMS backlog based on user value, time, and other team dependencies
  • Coordinate validation activities, including review of validation scripts like IQ/OQ/PQ
  • Ensure backlog content and prioritization is aligned with larger strategic objectives
  • Participate in a modified Agile development by writing and managing functional requirements, and participating in standup, planning, and retrospective meetings while supporting a regulated instance of LIMS
  • Work with the software vendor to identify features that will require business workflow changes
  • Anticipate and recognize informatic challenges and make recommendations for solutions and allocation of resources and sequencing of activities that are needed to meet company goals
  • Proactively communicate to stakeholders progress or quality events via drip communications like email as well as at larger forums including quarterly and annual planning meetings
  • Ensure constant clarity in terms of what is to be executed next by the software configuration and validation functional areas
  • Other duties as assigned

  • A strong technical background with a history of working in a software development or biotechnology environment
  • Experience interviewing stakeholders to gather requirements and translate to technical needs for developers
  • Excellent communication skills when interacting with other technical experts and non-technical experts
  • 3-5 years of project leadership experience, including leading a major project that involved significant organizational change impact, preferably a large software or digital project
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a history of success working in cross-functional teams
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment with ambitious goals and timelines
  • Self-directed and takes on challenges yet are comfortable asking for help when needed
  • A person who understands our niche in biotechnology and has at least 3 years of experience in Lab Information Management Systems or Data Management. Industry experience ideal
  • Data management and software background with a desire to work at the intersection of life sciences and software
  • Experience with Atlassian's JIRA and Confluence applications
  • Experience working with a remotely distributed team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Life Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 10 years of experience in biotechnology or biopharmaceuticals including 3-5 years working with LIMS/ELN systems
  • Experience in a controlled delivery environment, preferably in a Product Owner role
  • Experience writing User, Functional, and Configuration Specifications in a regulated environment
  • Basic understanding of system administration, permissions strategy, or computer system validation
  • Experience with Sapio Sciences LIMS platform.
  • Experience interacting with software management tools in GitHub (issues and PRs)

  • A mission to be proud of. You will help to provide access to a technology with unprecedented sensitivity that makes it possible to solve previously unsolvable scientific problems in basic research and translational medicine, with direct and immediate benefits to human health.
  • Competitive compensation and equity incentive plan.
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental and vision benefits for employees and dependents, sponsored life, short and long-term disability insurance, and 401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching.
  • Generous paid time off policies.
  • Recognition that outside life exists and is important, that flexibility is needed for family and that work can often be effectively carried out remotely.
  • Casual but high-performing work environment.
  • Social events and weekly happy hours.

We are a vibrant, young company committed to applying a powerful new genomic technology across disciplines to improve human health and accelerate scientific discovery. Our mission is to develop and deliver the unprecedented accuracy of duplex sequencing for applications in the life sciences and medicine where it can do the greatest good for the maximum number of people.

To the greatest extent possible, we strive for open sharing of knowledge and discovery through academic presentations and peer-reviewed publications.

At TwinStrand we put a premium on creativity, dynamic thinking, and a rigorous scientific approach. You will be challenged to push the boundaries of your knowledge, skills, and comfort zone and to take ownership of your area of expertise. We expect all team members to take on some form of leadership role over time and mentor new team members as we continue to expand. We want every member of our community to come to work excited each day and able to take pride in the high-quality science to improve human health that they are contributing to.
