Director, Software Integration

The position will lead an interdisciplinary technical team to drive three software functional groups: Quality Assurance (QA); Infrastructure; and Middleware. Each functional area will need to be managed for ongoing sustainability to support current project commitments. In addition to a commitment to current deliverables, a forward thinking management approach will be critical to ensure the proper build out of each functional group toward an enterprise level service delivery software model. This position will report to the Vice President of Software Engineering. You will be a subject matter expert for bridging the gap internally in project teams as well as externally with Clients, Suppliers and Installers.
Responsibilities:
  • The continued build out of the QA group to support mature quality assurance software testing.
  • The appropriate recognition of required staffing needs to build and maintain successful QA, infrastructure and middleware teams.
  • Ongoing management, mentoring and leadership of the QA, infrastructure and middleware teams.
  • Development of a best practice QA model that works within the unique world of material handling software delivery.
  • Making assessments and recommendations regarding the strategic direction of the middleware product.
  • Working with stakeholders to asses our current infrastructure offering.
  • Recommending strategic direction for sustainable technology that reduces cost, time and support.
  • Ensuring that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Managing the development and deployment of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
  • Researching and making recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Coordinating feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
  • Ensuring that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
  • Working in close collaboration with various stakeholders including project development, QA, implementation and other groups both internal and external to the Software team.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in computer systems design or computer science with 10+ years relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 6+ years direct experience in software development and/or programming design and systems management
  • Proven experience in overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of software solutions
  • Hands-on experience with automated software and system management tools
  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
  • Extensive experience with core software applications, including Autocad, Netbeans, Visual Studio, Subversion, Redmine
  • Technically fluent in programming languages, including C++, Java, PL/SQL
  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
  • Knowledge of database design and file management techniques
  • Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Linux, Microsoft Windows
  • Knowledge of network hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP, FTP, SOA
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Strong customer-service orientation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Ability to conduct research into application development issues and products
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally up to 10%
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job
